WE'RE FUBAR. WE DON'T DO ORDINARY.
We’re FUBAR Radio. We make talk, comedy and entertainment that doesn’t sound like everything else. Unfiltered, unpredictable and allergic to playing it safe. We back people with something to say , especially when nobody else knows what to do with them.
Over the years, we've welcomed an impressive line-up of personalities from comedy, entertainment and popular culture, including Joel Dommett, James Acaster, Ed Gamble, Richard Herring, Lou Sanders, Ellie Taylor, Seann Walsh, Pete Wicks, JaackMaate and loads more.
02 / WHY WE’RE DOING THIS
BECAUSE THE NEXT BIG THING ISN’T ON THE LIST YET.
With its fearless mix of comedy, conversation, entertainment and emerging talent, FUBAR Radio is a place where fresh ideas are encouraged, creative risks can be taken and the next generation of talent can be discovered.
We know there's extraordinary audio drama and comedy talent in the UK, but sadly very few places to hear it. We want to change that. Our competition celebrates emerging scriptwriters, comedy/drama actors, producers, directors; everyone who puts their unique touch into a project. We want you to have a space to publish and be heard.
The UK has a well-deserved reputation for some of the world's best independent audio dramas out there doing exceptional work, and we know many more have been buried under an avalanche of content, starved of the audience they deserve. This dynamic creates an accidental firewall for undiscovered writers and underrepresented voices. It leaves new creators stuck between shouting into an algorithmic void or waiting indefinitely for a rare broadcast slot.
FUBAR Radio is bridging that gap by breaking down the barrier to discovery. We are offering a new runway for the UK’s most raw, honest, and unapologetic radio dramatists. We are bypassing the algorithm to hand you the ultimate shortcut to a massive audience: instant exposure to half a million listeners overnight.
We welcome bold storytelling and creative risk across every genre. Challenging themes and strong language may be considered in context, but all work must be suitable for broadcast. Every entry will be vetted: hate speech, defamatory material and unlawful content are not permitted.
03 / THE CHALLENGE
SURPRISE US. WE DARE YOU.
The Brief: Create an original, unproduced radio drama in any genre, of up to 10 minutes. You are allowed a maximum of four characters in your project. Choose one of two entry pathways: Recorded drama. Submit a recording of your original script for broadcast, together with the script. You can use up to four actors, or choose to voice multiple characters with fewer actors. You can include sound design and SFX. Or Script only, submit only your original script without a recording.
Any genre is welcome: Comedy, drama, thriller, science fiction, horror, romance, experimental work and more. Be bold and imaginative. All entries must be original work, suitable for broadcast and meet the terms and conditions below.
Our judges are looking for creative use of radio, not simply a stage, film or TV script without the pictures.
Who can enter?
UK residents aged 18-30 on 5th November 2026 who have never had a full-length script broadcast on national UK radio. Enter on your own, as a writing partnership or with a small production team. Nominate one person as your lead entrant.

07 / WHAT THE JUDGES HEAR
MAKE US FEEL SOMETHING.
A panel drawn from radio, writing, acting and the creative industries will assess entries in each pathway separately. Recorded dramas are judged on the finished production; script-only entries are judged on the writing and its potential for audio.
08 / BEFORE YOU ENTER
THE SERIOUS BIT.
We love creative chaos. Administrative chaos? Less so. Read the rules before you enter. They apply to both pathways.
Eligibility and entry dates
Entrants must be UK residents aged 18–30 on 5 November 2026 and must never have had a full-length script broadcast on national BBC radio. Individuals, writing partnerships and small production teams may enter; nominate one eligible lead entrant. Entries open on 5 November 2026 and close on 31 January 2027. Submit through the competition entry form before the deadline. Only one submission per person and per project. Individual projects cannot win more than one cash prize.
Two pathways and cash prizes
Recorded drama: first prize £1500; second prize £750. Script only: first prize £1000; second prize £500. Entries are assessed separately within their chosen pathway. State your pathway clearly when submitting.
Original work, genre, duration and cast
Any genre is welcome. Entries must be original work and must not have been previously broadcast. Scripts must be written for a running time of no more than 10 minutes; recordings must not exceed 10 minutes, including music and credits. Both pathways are limited to a maximum of 4 characters. An actor may play more than one role.
What to submit
For script only, submit the script as a PDF, without an audio recording or performer list. Include your name and contact details. For recorded drama, submit a complete MP3 (minimum 192 kbps) or WAV recording, a PDF copy of the script, and a list of all performers and production staff with their roles. Include a music and sound effects cue sheet stating each item’s title or description, creator, performer where applicable, source, rights holder, licence or permission, and where and for how long it appears. If none are used, state “No music or sound effects used”. For both pathways, provide the requested contact and eligibility details, a synopsis of up to 250 words, and an AI-use declaration.
Recording access and audio quality
Recordings may be made on a mobile phone or a similar high-quality audio recorder. Access to a studio or specialist facilities is not required, but is preferred. Speech must be clear and intelligible, and the recording must be complete and suitable for listening. Levels between microphones, music and sound effects must be suitably balanced. Judging will focus on storytelling, performance and creative use of audio rather than access to expensive equipment.
Broadcast suitability and content vetting
All entries will be vetted by FUBAR Radio and must be reasonably suitable for broadcast. No hate speech, defamatory material, incitement to violence or hatred, unlawful content, or unjustified invasions of privacy are permitted. Do not use a real person’s name, voice, likeness or other identifying characteristics in a way that requires their permission unless you have obtained that permission. Challenging themes, strong language and sensitive subject matter will be considered in context; include relevant content advisories. FUBAR may request reasonable changes to meet editorial or broadcast requirements, or decline entries that do not meet these standards. Any substantive changes may be discussed with the entrant at FUBAR’s sole discretion.
AI support and originality
AI may be used to support your writing, for example to brainstorm, check spelling or grammar, or give feedback. The submitted story, characters and dramatic writing must remain your own original creative work; do not submit an AI-generated script as your own. You must make the creative decisions, check all suggestions and take responsibility for the final submission. Declare which AI tools you used and briefly explain how, or state “No AI used”. AI use does not remove the obligation to respect copyright or other people’s rights. Synthetic voices must not impersonate a real person without their permission.
Copyright, music and performer permissions
You keep full ownership of your work when you enter. Submitting an entry does not transfer copyright or other intellectual property rights to FUBAR Radio. If your project is selected among the top ten in either category, FUBAR will invite you to enter into a separate written copyright assignment and revenue-sharing agreement before your selection is confirmed for broadcast or a cash prize. You can say no. If you decline, you retain your rights, but you will not receive a cash prize or a scheduled broadcast placement, and FUBAR may select another eligible project in your place. WHY THE AGREEMENT? To broadcast, adapt, reformat and develop selected projects without repeatedly seeking permission, FUBAR requires assignment of 100% of the copyright and other assignable intellectual property rights owned or controlled by the relevant creators in the original script, recording and production materials. The agreement will provide for a worldwide assignment for the full period of protection, including rights to edit, rewrite, perform, produce, reproduce, broadcast, publish, distribute, sublicense and commercially exploit the work in any media. All relevant rights holders, including co-writers and other contributors, must sign the necessary assignments and performer releases. FUBAR will not treat any copyright as transferred merely because an application was submitted or a project was shortlisted. WHAT DO YOU GET? Under the agreement, FUBAR will pay the selected entrant or nominated lead entrant 50% of revenue actually received by FUBAR from third-party licensing or other third-party exploitation of the selected work’s intellectual property. FUBAR retains the other 50%. If your project gets picked up by Netflix, you are still in the game. The split does not apply to FUBAR’s own broadcast, podcast, promotional or other direct use of the work. For team entries, the lead entrant is responsible for distributing the entrant’s share among contributors. The signed agreement will set out the full terms. THIRD-PARTY MATERIAL. Music, sound effects and other material owned by third parties cannot be assigned by an entrant who does not own those rights. Entrants must use only their own original material or material they are authorised to use, and must provide a complete cue sheet identifying each item, title or description, creator, composer, performer where applicable, source, rights holder, licence or permission, and location and duration in the recording. If none is used, say so. Evidence of permissions must be supplied on request. An entrant’s licence does not necessarily authorise sublicensing or use by FUBAR. FUBAR may verify rights, contact rights holders, obtain additional licences for broadcast, on-demand use, adaptation or commercial exploitation, and remove, replace, edit or relicense third-party material without further entrant approval once the relevant agreement is signed. FUBAR may withhold broadcast or exploitation until necessary rights are cleared. Entrants remain responsible for accurate rights declarations and permissions for their submissions.
Finalist broadcasts and future script productions
FUBAR intends to select the top ten recorded projects and the top ten script-only projects. Selection is provisional until each selected entrant has signed the required copyright assignment and revenue-sharing agreement, all relevant contributor releases have been obtained, and FUBAR has completed content vetting and rights clearance. Signing is a condition of receiving any cash prize or scheduled broadcast placement. A selected entrant may decline the agreement and keep their work and rights; in that case the selection, prize eligibility and broadcast placement are withdrawn, and FUBAR may choose a replacement. The top ten recorded projects that complete these requirements will be scheduled for broadcast on FUBAR Radio with appropriate production credits. Script-only projects may be developed, recorded and broadcast at FUBAR’s discretion; selection in the script-only top ten does not guarantee production or broadcast. Once the required rights are assigned, FUBAR may develop, edit, adapt, cast, record, produce, broadcast, publish, license or otherwise exploit the selected work without seeking further creative approval, subject to applicable law and the signed agreements. Broadcast dates will be communicated to selected entrants.
Judging and administration
Entries are judged separately within each pathway on originality, storytelling, dialogue and character, creative use of sound (recorded or scripted), and overall impact. The judges’ artistic decisions are final. If the judges reasonably suspect that a submission was written wholly or predominantly by generative AI, FUBAR may request drafts, working notes or other information about its creation. FUBAR may disqualify a submission on this basis at its discretion, whether or not further information has been requested or provided. FUBAR may also disqualify entries that breach these terms or contain false eligibility or rights declarations. Necessary changes to the competition timetable will be communicated to entrants.
Personal information and publicity
Provide only the personal information requested for administering the competition. Do not include private performer contact details in the script or public credits. FUBAR will seek agreement before publishing entrant biographies, photographs or interview material. The entry form must provide the organiser’s contact details and a privacy notice explaining how entrant information is used and retained.
