Chatting to host Bobby Norris and co-host Ellen Coughlan on the showbiz programme Access All Areas, Matthew Haywood opened up about his weight loss on the show: “I was starved on an island, and when I came home, it's only been in the past few months that my eating has become normal again. I was going through heavy binging, and then fat. I was doing like 95-hour fasts coming off the show as well. So, I was either eating everything or nothing. It's just because I lost three stone when I was on the show.”
Also in this episode, he reveals the difficulty of readjusting to normal life after the show: “When I first got to the holding hotel and I had to give my phone away, I felt so anxious that first night, it was the next morning as well, you wake up in the hotel, and I didn't have a phone. It was horrible. But then when we came out the experience, I didn't switch mine on for two days. I didn’t want it”
Later in the show, Matthew spoke about how he feels education around masculinity needs to change: “I've been to six, seven schools now, since the show, and I just think to be a man in this generation, there's so much pressure on men to conform to what a man is, or what society thinks a man is. And I think the second you realise you don't have to conform to that, that's when the pressure's lifted. So, I'll go into schools. I see these children, and I think the school system is a little bit broken anyway”
