Early roles followed on British TV, including a stint on the BBC children's drama Grange Hill. In 2000, Costa teamed up with friend Duncan James, and together they recruited Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe to form Blue. The group's R&B-tinged pop sound made them one of the biggest UK acts of the era, with their debut single "All Rise" reaching number 4 on the UK charts and further hits — including the number 1 "Too Close" — cementing their status as pop icons. Blue went on to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011. Beyond the band, Costa pursued a solo career, released a solo single and debut album in 2006, and built a strong presence in musical theatre, taking on the role of Mickey Johnstone in Blood Brothers and touring in Boogie Nights. He's also dipped into reality TV and after-dinner speaking, trading on his "cheeky-chappy" reputation. Off stage, Costa is a devoted father to Savannah and Paloma, partner to Rosanna, and a fellow long-suffering Tottenham Hotspur fan alongside host Nathan — and he brings his own hard-won, tour-life parenting stories into the Courtroom this week.
