The Apprentice star Bushra Shaikh admits her homophobic tweet was a mistake

Recently on FUBAR Radio, Bushra Shaikh, star of The Apprentice, admits that her tweet comparing homosexuality to pedophilia was a mistake.

Chatting to hosts Bobby Norris and Ellen Coughlan on the showbiz programme Access All Areas, Bushra Shaikh explains her controversial tweets: “I realised very quickly how that particular tweet was being misconstrued. Because I wouldn't compare paedophilia to being gay, they're two completely different things. One is criminal, one is punishable, one you can go to prison. So as soon as I realised that this could be misinterpreted, I took that tweet away. We can make mistakes, and I'm also one of those people.”

She spoke about how her faith and background influences her thoughts on the LGBTQ+ community: “I'll clarify something. I've never said it's inhumane. It's just because I'm a Muslim and we don't accept that. We believe it's a sin. And when I was asked a question, I have to be honest about that. But does that mean that it's okay to hate people who are gay or from that community? No”

Also in this episode, Bushra spoke about her experience on the Channel 4 programme, Go Back To Where You Came from: “It was the scariest. I mean, for me, anyway, the experience was so frightening. Now in Syria, things are slightly different. They've had a regime change, and it's a bit different now. But when we were there, There was conflict zones everywhere. That means you could be bombed at any point.”
